Bad Breath (Halitosis) Symptoms, Causes and Home Remedies

Bad breath could be an uncomfortable condition for anyone. It usually results due to poor oral hygiene. "There are different bacteria that like different environments, and the ones that prefer a dry mouth are also the more problematic when it comes to bad breath and periodontal disease, saliva washes the teeth and keeps bacteria at bay. It's a natural buffer," says Dr. Messina, a dentist in Cleveland, Ohio, and a spokesman for the American Dental Association.

Bad Breath Symptoms:

  • Unpleasant odour in breath
  • Dry mouth
  • Bad taste
  • Feeling of a coating on tongue

Bad Breath Causes:

  • Bacterial activity in mouth
  • Improper oral hygiene
  • Dry mouth
  • Digestive disorders
  • Chewing tobacco
  • Consuming garlic

"Sinus infections, diabetes, liver and kidney disease, certain cancers—those can all be causes of chronic bad breath, you don't want to ignore it, Halitosis is not something that people should just accept as normal," says Dr. Messina, a dentist in Cleveland, Ohio, and a spokesman for the American Dental Association.

Natural Home Remedy Using Cinnamon:

  1. Take 1 cup of hot water
  2. Add 3 tsp of cinnamon powder
  3. Mix well
  4. When lukewarm, use as a mouthwash

Natural Home Remedy Using Parsley Leaves:

  1. Parsley leaves are rich in chlorophyll and are nature's own deodorizer.
  2. Chew a few parsley leaves

 

Tips:

  • Chew 2 cardamom seeds
  • Suck on a piece of clove after each meal
  • Eat apple or guava after each meal as it clears the food particles stuck between the teeth and prevents bacterial activity
  • Brush 2 times a day
