Chafing – Symptoms, Causes and Home Remedies

Chafing is severe irritation of skin that basically happens due to repetitive friction. Generally this type of friction occurs through skin to skin contact of multiple body parts.

Chafing Symptoms:

  • Chafing usually occurs around the:

   o Inner thighs

   o Armpits

   o Nipples

   o Groin area

  • The skin becomes tender and sore
  • If neglected, chafing leads to bruising and infection

Chafing Causes:

  • Rubbing of body parts with each other
  • Poorly fitted innerwear
  • Usually athletes and obese people are prone to chafing

Natural Home Remedy Using Turmeric Powder:

  1. Take 3 tsp turmeric powder
  2. Add 1 tsp water
  3. Mix well to make paste
  4. Apply paste on the affected area
  5. Leave it for 30 min
  6. Cover it with a cloth
  7. Wash off with water

Natural Home Remedy Using Margosa Leaves and Lemon:

  1. Crush a handful of margosa leaves
  2. Squeeze ½ a lemon
  3. Mix well to from a paste
  4. Apply this paste on the affected area

Natural Home Remedy Using Aloe Vera:

  1. De-thorn and remove the outer skin of a few aloe vera leaves
  2. Extract aloe vera gel from inside
  3. Apply aloe vera gel on the affected area
  4. Wash it off with water after 30 min
  5. Wipe the area dry
  6. Do this twice every day


  • Do not wear ill-fitting innerwear
  • Keep the body lubricated by applying mustard oil on underarms and inner thighs
  • Use baby powder on chafing prone areas
