Dark Elbows, Causes and Home Remedies

Usually excessive sun exposure causes dark elbows as well as dark knees. Experts say, dark elbows also effects on your self-esteem spoiling the appearance of your pretty arms.

Dark Elbows Causes:

  • Neglecting skin care
  • Skin dryness
  • Environmental pollution

 

Other Causes of Dark Elbows:

  • Benign hyperpigmentation or active melanocytes in the elbows.
  • Overexposure to rays of the sun.
  • Use of certain medications.
  • A diagnosis of certain diseases (i.e. Addison’s syndrome)
  • Improper hygiene
  • Lack of exfoliation
  • Accumulation of dirt and grime
  • Constant contact or friction with clothes
  • Constant leaning on elbows
  • Skin dryness

Treating Dark Elbows: It is extremely distressing to have black elbows. Though it can happen to anyone but usually it happens due to the accretion of dead and dense skin that mainly causes the skin to turn black.

Natural Home Remedy Using Lemons:

  1. Cut a lemon in 2 halves
  2. Run the lemon on each elbow for 5 min
  3. Leave it for 3-4 hr
  4. Scrub with a rough towel
  5. Wash it off with lukewarm water
  6. Do this 2-3 times a week

Natural Home Remedy Using Yogurt and Vinegar:

  1. Take 2 tbsp yogurt
  2. Add 2 tsp vinegar
  3. Mix well
  4. Apply the mixture on the elbows
  5. Leave it for 20-30 min
  6. You may wrap a cloth on the elbow to hold the mixture
  7. Wash it off with lukewarm water

Tips:

  • Drink 8-10 glasses of water everyday
  • Keeping the body hydrated will give you a soft and healthy skin
