Dry Cracked Lips – Symptoms, Causes and Home Remedies

Dry cracked lips are very common especially in cold atmospheres. Sometimes you don’t need to worry for dry cracked lips, however, some beauty specialists put much emphases and suggest that dry cracked lips could lead to more serious illness. Basically when your lips do not have the ability to produce natural oil, the inner mechanism of lips weaken leading to cracked skin. “Your lips only have thin surface layers of skin, so they're more likely than the rest of your face to dry out,” says Los Angeles dermatologist Jessica Wu, MD.

Dry Cracked Lips Symptoms: "As saliva evaporates, it dehydrates skin further," Linder says, who is dermatologist and, MD, of Scottsdale, Ariz. "Picking at the already thin skin of the lips can lead to bleeding and severe discomfort, this slows the healing process and irritates the skin further."

"Drying ingredients in a balm may leave lips feeling less moisturized than before application, making a person feel as though she needs to apply more," Linder also says. That desire is not an addiction. "The reality is that [your] lips are not dependent on the balm."


Natural Home Remedy Using Rosewater and Honey:

  1. Take 1 tsp of rosewater
  2. Add 1 tsp of honey
  3. Mix well
  4. Apply this mixture on the lips

Natural Home Remedy Using Cucumber:

  1. Crush a peeled cucumber to make a paste
  2. Press this paste on a sieve and extract juice
  3. Apply this juice on the lips
  4. Wash it off after 20 min


  • Apply clarified butter before bedtime
  • Drink 8-10 glasses of water every day
  • This will help flush toxins from the body
  • It also keeps the skin hydrated
