Oily Hair - Causes and Home Remedies

Posted by Health&Beauty Expert on

It’s quite hard to keep oily hair from getting greasy all the time. Sometimes the excessive oil production in the body causes hair to become accumulated with unnecessary oil. The primary reason of unwanted greasy hair is the build-up of the normal excretion from the sebaceous glands in the scalp. “No one knows why, but your glands simply produce excessive sebum, which migrates more into your hair and gives it that greasy look and feel,” says Dr. Heidi Waldorf, a dermatologist and associate clinical director of dermatology at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York City.

Oily Hair Causes:

  • Hereditary factors
  • Incorrect diet
  • Lack of hair care
  • Hormonal changes, especially in women

Managing Oily Hair Through Medical Experts:

“These days so many of us have treated hair,” says dermatologist Dr. Erin Gilbert. “We respond by applying masks and heavy hydrating products that do wonders for softness and texture, but can make your scalp oily and your hair flat.”

“Silicone is one of the most common ingredients used in hair care, and unfortunately many silicones and oils are heavy and greasy,” he says. “These silicones and oils will attract particles in the air, making hair feel dirty much faster than otherwise.”
