Gout – Symptoms, Causes and Home Remedies

Gout is a medical disorder typically considered by recurring spells of severe stirring arthritis, an inflamed, gentle, hot, swollen joint. A type of arthritis, it is also called as toe or feet illness. The form frequently disturbs the toe, knee or wrist connections. According to rheumatologist Herbert Baraf, MD, clinical professor of medicine at George Washington University, “over time, repeated attacks can eat into bone and cartilage, causing permanent damage to affected joints."

"The biggest problem we see is undertreatment," Lianne Gensler, MD, assistant clinical professor of medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, told WebMD. "Patients aren't given appropriate medications to prevent flare-ups and complications, or they get don't get adequate doses to control their gout."

Symptoms To Look For:

  • Sudden bouts of unbearable pain
  • Inflammation, tenderness in the joints
  • Gout attacks usually occur at midnight or early in morning
  • Affected joint becomes hot and swollen and is very sensitive to touch
  • Pain and swelling generally goes away after 1-2 weeks
  • The pain reoccurs after sometime in the same or some other joint

  • High level of uric acid in the body
  • Excessive alcohol intake
  • Stress
  • Lack of exercise
  • Skipping meals
  • Dehydration

  2. Add 10 gm of camphor

  1. Wrap ice cubes in cloth

  • It reduces the frequency of gout flare-ups
